Why Your 2WD Workhorse Actually Needs a Lift
Let’s be honest: when most people see a “lifted” van, they assume it’s for “mall crawling” or showing off at a trailhead. But if you’re driving a Chevy Express or GMC Savana 2500/3500, a front lift isn’t about vanity—it’s about protecting your investment and keeping your van on the job.
We used to wonder why people lifted 2WD vans too—until we found ourselves 100 miles deep on a washboard logging road during a wildfire, praying we wouldn’t rip the grey water tanks off our camper on a rogue rock.
That’ll change your mind real quick.
1. Level the Stance, Save the Undercarriage
These 8-lug vans come from the factory with a serious nose-dive.
This “stinkbug” look isn’t just an aesthetic issue; it makes your front crossmember and bumper a magnet for every steep driveway and job site curb.
By giving your front end 2.0″ to 2.5″ of “daylight,” you stop the “nose-plow” effect and save yourself from expensive air dam and under carriage damage…you know how good engines and transmissions work when they have no oil ~ help avoid that oil pan damage.
2. Ditch the Wimpy Highway Tires
You shouldn’t be limited to whatever highway tires they have at the big-box store. A 404088 series kit opens up your wheel wells, allowing you to run aggressive, larger-diameter All-Terrain rubber on your stock 16″ rims. Whether it’s swampy mud on a construction site or loose dirt at a trailhead, better tires mean better traction when the pavement ends.
3. Built for the 600,000-Mile Legend
We know these vans are legendary for hitting 600,000 miles, so we didn’t use plastic “pucks” or mystery alloys. Our kits are laser-cut from USA Mill Certified Steel and finished with a durable coat. They are over-engineered to handle the weight of a fully loaded service van or a custom camper build.
4. Which One Do You Actually Need?
The most important part of this is getting the fitment right. Grab your calipers and measure your front coil springs:
- The “Stance Fixer” (#404088-F): Provides a 2.5″ lift for Standard Duty springs (under 22mm).
- The “HD Specialist” (#404088-FS): Provides a 2.5″ lift specifically for Heavy Duty 22mm+ springs.
- The “Versatile” Fix (#404088-TF): The no-guesswork option. It provides a 2.0″ lift and fits both Standard and HD springs.
Option 1: The “Tradesman”
Stop plowing the job site with your bumper. If you’re driving a Chevy or GMC 2500/3500, you know the sound of a front air dam scraping a curb all too well. Our #404088-F leveling kit gives you 2.5″ of front-end freedom to level that factory nose-dive. Built from USA Steel to outlast your engine, it’s a direct bolt-on that keeps your factory ride while giving you a better view of the road. Stop being high-centered in the mud and get your nose out of the dirt.
Option 2: The “Van-Life”
Why lift a 2WD adventure rig?

Because ripping your grey water tanks off on a forest service road is a quick way to ruin a trip. The 404088 Series isn’t for “mall crawling”—it’s for real-world clearance.
Level your stance, fit beefier All-Terrain tires, and gain the confidence to go where the pavement ends.
Fitment Tip: Measure your springs! If you’re over 22mm, you need the #404088-FS HD Specialist.
If you want zero guesswork, the #404088-TF fits every spring size.
The Fitment Guide
Step 1: Grab Your Calipers or an open end 22mm wrench
~ Before you order, you need to know what you’re working with. Chevy and GMC 2500/3500 vans come with different front coil spring thicknesses.
Step 2: Choose Your Kit
- If your spring is UNDER 22mm: You have Standard Duty springs. Grab the #404088-F for a 2.5″ lift.
- If your spring is 22mm OR LARGER: You have Heavy Duty (HD) springs. Grab the #404088-FS for a 2.5″ lift.
- If you don’t have calipers (or want the easiest install): Grab the #404088-TF. It is universal and fits both spring sizes with a 2.0″ lift.
